Can you try a fresh steam install of the demo also and see if it works? So far, I've had 4 Mac users attempt a Steam demo install and play, and 3 of 4 met with success. I'm more confident it should work this time. I've changed the steamworks backend again so that the Steam Launcher points at the right place.
